Every switch on the layout has been checked for clearance through the frog. The Fast Track assembly jigs make assembly almost perfect, but I assume they figure frogs may need a little work later since they sell both a flat file and a triangular file just advertised as for that purpose. Much easier to do once the switch is installed and solid.
Also took a flat bastard file and went over every frog to insure everything was perfectly level when entering the frog.
Powered up the layout and several shorts in the multiple power blocks. I assumed from filing the frogs. Vacuumed every frog and everything is free from shorts. Important to do right after before you do anything else like painting track or ballast.
Three locomotives have been disassembled and lubed and a record made. These are back on the layout along with a new diesel to be used just to haul track cleaning cars around rather than using my brass steam – why put additional wear and tear on them?
Taking 10 days off for a vacation.
