Painting Track & Ties

Three colors were applied.  First Rust-Oleum Camouflage Brown on everything.

Next lesser used tracks had ties sprayed directly down with Roof Weathered  Wood.

Those little used tracks had rails sprayed at a low angle with red oxide primer.

The brown and red were diluted about 30% with solvent left from 1st try at decanting.

The grey had more solvent and turned out too light.  It is sitting outside for a few hours to let some of the solvent escape.

25# pressure was used with the Paasche VL airbrush. 3 different containers were used to switch colors.  About 5′ of track length (painting all the tracks within that 5′) was painted at a time.

A wooden block with paint thinner was rubbed across the rails before proceeding to the next section.

It took 2.5 hours to do the 30′ of track in Red Bluff.

I forgot to put in the missing ties under rail joiners, but have done so in the next 2 towns.  I will take the painted test ties and insert them under the Red Bluff tracks and touch up along with painting around throwbars.
