The foam hills have been covered with out-of-date medical plaster gauze. I took a few days off from scenery and worked more on electrical. Also fixed entry door that was dragging on concrete.
Prior to starting background painting, the horizon line needed to be determined. Looking at commercial examples on the internet, most seemed to be 2.5″ to 3″ for HO. I set mine at 2.75″. My laser was used to draw a reference line.
Acrylic paints are being used to paint the background. Using photographs to the area, I began by painting the far mountains which were just a faint outline. Then closer mountains were added. After adding vegetation, a thin tan wash was applied to the darker mountains.
One problem in this area is there is a lot of dry grass in the foreground, basically all 2.75″. It took a lot of work to make it look right with several washes being applied to alter the color. Depending upon the time of the year and location, the grass can be golden or a straw color. I had photos showing both. I decided for this area to match the golden color to the static grass I would be using. Finally, I painted on a few trees and bushes. I may add more but wanted to see how it looked when 3-D scenery products are applied.
The plywood was painted a dirt brown.
