I had a break on layout construction as we took a trip over Thanksgiving and then out to California.
I laid out L-girder that was saved from the previous layout for some of the new layout. I have pretty much finished the L-girder and joists for Gerber Yard (45′ long.) Now just have to add legs. I experimented with 53″ in height but decided to go back to the height I used on the previous layout (50″.)
The plywood joists were covered but stored outdoors. This caused some splintering when drilling 3/4″ wiring holes. I made them 3 1/2″ high because of the many voids in the plywood and to make land forms easier to construct. Since I printed out where all the switch machines go, there should be no problem with joists being in the way.
I am leaving the temperature in the train room at 64 all the time. Once all benchwork is done, will up it to high 70’s for a few days to help remove moisture from wood.
We have heavy rain today and I am working on a covered patio, but wind is blowing rain on saw so had to quit for the day.
